My ideal client is driven by purpose and possibility. They understand that AI isn’t something to bolt onto an old process; they’re willing to step back, reevaluate, and redesign for the future. They want to build systems that work now, and can adapt later. That mindset has helped me build strong partnerships with a few cornerstone clients who keep me engaged and challenged, and who genuinely enjoy working with me. I’ve also learned to protect my time by turning down projects that aren’t a fit. Clients looking for minimalist web setups via Wix or Squarespace aren’t aligned with my strengths or vision. I’ve found that the leanest projects often demand the most, and that’s a tradeoff I’ve decided to avoid.

In terms of tools, I lean heavily on MindStudio and n8n for automation. I often work with self-hosted and on-prem solutions like MariaDB, PostgreSQL, Neo4j, and SQLite, depending on the client’s needs. For language models, I blend Claude, OpenAI, and Perplexity to meet different goals. On the UI front, I use Windsurf—leveraging my engineering background to build from scratch when needed—and Bolt.new for rapid prototyping. While I haven’t yet focused on audio/visual generation, it’s an area I plan to explore soon.

One of the most important ethical takeaways for me has been the reminder that a functioning proof of concept doesn’t absolve us from accountability; just because something works doesn’t mean it’s safe or fair. As consultants, we need to proactively look for hidden risks and latent bias, and ensure we’re not simply offloading decisions to systems without understanding their implications.
