Meet Dougal
I specialize in AI consulting for Scottish forward-thinking creative businesses and cultural organizations.
As a digital media producer and consultant for over 25 years, I’ve always been drawn to where creativity meets technology. My recent focus on AI builds naturally on that foundation. I now work closely with creative businesses, arts organisations, and cultural institutions across Scotland, offering AI consulting, training, and strategy tailored to their unique needs.
One of the highlights of my consultancy journey has been my ongoing work with the Scottish Music Centre. What began as a single team training has evolved into a strong working relationship. After the initial session, I proposed ideas for deeper collaboration. This led to further workshops, a research and development project exploring solutions for their music catalogue database, and now a full AI-powered data enrichment project. They’ve introduced me to other departments internally and also referred me to peers in the cultural sector. These kinds of partnerships are the ideal outcome of what I aim to build with every client.
I’ve also led AI trainings for artist development agencies, theatres, and academic institutions. From full-day sessions for PhD students at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design to strategic workshops for senior managers at Perth Theatre and Concert Hall, I shape each engagement to match the audience’s level and objectives. Across these sessions, I consistently see how creative professionals light up when they realise how AI can amplify their work rather than replace it.
My approach to ethics is deeply influenced by past work in digital rights and copyright, which gives me a solid grounding for navigating today’s conversations around AI. I pay close attention to the issues of bias, fairness, and environmental responsibility. Whether I’m designing workshops or consulting on business systems, I bring these principles into the room to guide decision-making.
My toolkit includes Zapier for automation and Airtable for both data and UI interfacing. I use ChatGPT and Gemini depending on the task, and I’m hands-on with creative tools like Veo3, ElevenLabs, Suno, and Adobe Creative Cloud. These let me support clients across a range of use cases, from enhanced podcast production to AI-powered business development.
At the heart of my work is a belief that creative organizations deserve thoughtful, accessible, and ethical support in adopting AI. My goal is to make these technologies work for them—enhancing their missions, not distracting from them.
